Claire Lee was invited by the Armed Forces Community All Party Parliamentary Group to present the findings from the research project at a Round Table with Schools Minister Georgia Gould and MPs Calvin Bailey and Alex Baker, alongside Service parents, colleagues from the Royal British Legion, MOD, Naval Children’s Charity, Edinburgh Napier University, Families Federations, SCiP Alliance, Service Children in State Schools and SSAFA’s Forces Additional Needs and Disabilities Forum. The Round Table provided an opportunity to highlight the potential disadvantage for mobile Armed Forces families within the current SEND system in England and discuss the proposed SEND reforms. Claire and colleagues urged that reforms should ensure continuity in provision for Service children with additional needs when their families move for Armed Forces Service; that local authorities should be accountable for the continuity of their provision, and that educators need a better understanding of the lives of Armed Forces families.
